Hillary Clinton Redefining State Department and... →
Good article from the Washington Post talking about how Clinton is redefining diplomacy. Particularly interesting part about technology:
”Our diplomats are going to need to have skills that are closer to community organizing than traditional reporting and analysis. New connecting technologies will be vital tools in this kind of diplomacy.” —Anne-Marie Slaughter

Amazing internal memo from the Australian government in the 1960s who were suggesting that women were not fit to be trade commissioners. Amazing how things change in such a short period of time.

Palm Pre Reports Your Location and Usage To Palm →
Opt-in is always the best approach. Palm needs to fix this if they hope to keep the trust of their users.
The fact is that, as the underdog whose financial future rests on the Pre, they can’t afford to screw up. Not even on a small issue like this.

The .webfont standard is really important for the future of the web. Being limited to the same 10 fonts (many of those which no designer would ever use) for the next decade would be a real setback.

The prospects of Microsoft Word in the wiki-based... →
Great article discussing how MS Word is increasingly deprecated as a writing tool. Obviously there are some users for whom a comprehensive suite like Word will still be useful, but I tend to agree with this author’s findings. Even when I was still in University, I began using simpler and simpler tools to accomplish what I was getting at. I rarely fire up Word anymore - not even at work.

RadioShack Rebrands as "The Shack"
Following on the heels of successful campaigns like Pizza Hut’s “The Hut”, RadioShack is clearly showing its savviness with the “cool kids” market by rebranding as “The Shack”. Not to be confused with the never-completed movie, Ernest Goes to The Shack.
